Your Dog Lives at Home. That's Where Training Should Start.

Training can be difficult when you're trying to explain your dog's behavior to someone who has never seen it happen.

Maybe your dog jumps on guests at the door.

Maybe walks are stressful because your dog pulls, barks, or reacts to other dogs.

Maybe your rescue dog hides when someone enters the house.

Maybe your puppy hasn't learned how to settle down.

Or maybe you simply want help building a strong foundation from the beginning.

In-home training allows us to work with you and your dog in the environment where these behaviors actually occur.

Rather than teaching skills in isolation, we can help you understand how to use those skills as part of your dog's everyday routine.

How In-Home Dog Training Works

01 — Start With an Evaluation

We'll talk about your dog, what you're experiencing, and what you want to accomplish through training.

02 — Build a Plan Around Your Dog

Every dog learns differently. We'll develop an approach based on your dog's behavior, temperament, environment, and your goals.

03 — Train Together

Sherry works directly with you and your dog in your home, teaching you how to communicate clearly and practice the skills correctly.

04 — Practice Between Sessions

The goal isn't for your dog to only listen when the trainer is present. You'll learn how to continue the training between sessions.

05 — Bring Skills Into Everyday Life

As your dog progresses, skills can be practiced in increasingly realistic situations so they become useful beyond the training session.

More Than Training Commands

At Side by Side Dog Training, we believe effective training begins with understanding.

A dog isn't simply being "bad" when they bark, hide, pull, jump, or struggle to listen. Behavior is communication, and understanding what is driving that behavior can help us determine how to move forward.

That's especially important for fearful, anxious, shy, and under-socialized dogs.

With more than 17 years of hands-on rescue experience, Sherry brings patience, compassion, and a deep understanding of dogs who may need a little more time and support.

Our goal isn't simply to teach your dog commands.

It's to help you understand your dog and help your dog understand you.

A Gentle Starting Point for Fearful & Anxious Dogs

Some dogs need more than basic obedience.

Fear, anxiety, limited socialization, genetics, previous experiences, or an unfamiliar environment can all affect how a dog responds to the world around them.

For these dogs, training needs to account for the dog's emotional state—not just the behavior we see on the surface.

Sherry has spent more than 17 years working hands-on with rescue dogs and has developed a particular passion for helping fearful and anxious dogs build confidence.

In-home training can provide a familiar starting environment where we can better understand your dog's behavior and teach you how to support their progress.

Progress doesn't have to happen overnight. It just needs to move in the right direction.

We Train You, Too.

One of the most important parts of dog training is making sure the people understand what to do.

During your sessions, you'll learn how to:

Communicate clearly with your dog

Recognize what your dog is telling you

Practice commands correctly

Reinforce desirable behaviors

Respond appropriately when challenges arise

Continue training between sessions

Because the goal isn't to create a dog who listens to Sherry.

The goal is to help your dog listen to you.

Real Training. Real Life. Real Progress

10/10 recommend Sherry and Side by Side Dog Training. We used her in-home training services to train our rescue puppy, Eva Mae. My boyfriend and I wanted to train Eva using German words, and Sherry accommodated us by learning the words we chose. She met us in our home, at the park, and at Home Depot. Sherry taught us how to work with our dog, and corrected us in real-time when we messed up so that we were training Eva the right way. Sherry genuinely cares about her clients and their dogs. She is wonderful with all types of dogs and has the patience and compassion necessary for dogs with difficult behaviors.
