More Than a Board & Train

A board-and-train program shouldn't simply mean dropping your dog off and picking them up two weeks later.

The most important part of training is what happens after your dog comes home.

That's why the Hybrid Package combines professional board-and-train with private sessions for you and your dog.

During the 14-day board-and-train portion, your dog receives focused training and structured practice.

Then, through private sessions, we help you understand the skills your dog has learned and teach you how to communicate clearly and continue practicing those skills in your own environment.

Is the Hybrid Package Right for Your Dog?

The Hybrid Package may be a good fit for families who want a more intensive training experience while still being actively involved in their dog's progress.

Dogs Needing More Focused Training

For dogs who would benefit from dedicated training time beyond weekly sessions.

Dogs Struggling With Everyday Manners

Work on foundational skills that can make daily life more manageable.

Leash Challenges

Build better walking skills, focus, and communication.

Dogs Needing More Structure

A structured environment can provide more opportunities for consistent practice.

Rescue Dogs

For families looking for additional support while helping a dog adjust and develop new skills.

Owners Who Want Hands-On Guidance

The private sessions help you learn how to maintain and continue the training once your dog returns home.

What's Included in the Hybrid Package?

14-Day Board & Train

Your dog spends 14 days in a structured training environment receiving focused attention and practice.

Three Private Training Sessions

Private sessions give you hands-on instruction so you understand the skills your dog has learned and how to continue working with them.

Training E-Collar

An e-collar is included as part of the training package.

Training Leash

A leash is included to help you continue practicing the skills developed during the program.

Personalized Training

Training is adapted to your dog's individual needs, temperament, behavior, and goals.

What Happens During the 14-Day Board & Train?

Your dog isn't simply spending two weeks away from home. Those 14 days provide an opportunity for consistent training, repetition, structure, and practice.

DAYS 1–2

Getting to Know Your Dog

The first part of the process is about getting to know your dog's personality, behavior, comfort level, and individual needs.

Rather than treating every dog the same, training begins with understanding the dog in front of us.

DAYS 3–6

Building the Foundation

Training focuses on developing foundational skills and establishing clearer communication.

Depending on your dog's needs, this may include obedience, place, leash skills, recall, focus, and appropriate household manners.

DAYS 7–10

Building Consistency

Once your dog understands the foundational skills, we can continue practicing them with increasing consistency.

The goal is to help your dog understand what is expected and become more reliable with those skills.

DAYS 11–14

Preparing for Home

The final portion of the board-and-train focuses on preparing for the transition back home.

Your dog isn't the only one who needs to be ready.

You need to know what to do, too.

This is where the private training sessions become an important part of the Hybrid Package.

The Training Doesn't End When Your Dog Comes Home

One of the biggest mistakes families can make with board-and-train programs is assuming the dog will come home completely trained and everything will automatically stay that way.

Dogs need consistency.

And owners need to know how to provide it.

That's why the Hybrid Package includes three private training sessions.

These sessions help you understand your dog's new skills, practice handling your dog, learn how to reinforce appropriate behavior, and build consistency within your own routines.

The goal is to create a smoother transition between the training environment and your home.

We Train the Human, Too.

Your dog may spend 14 days receiving focused professional training, but you are the person your dog will live with every day.

During your private sessions, you'll learn how to:

  • Communicate clearly with your dog

  • Use the training equipment appropriately

  • Reinforce the behaviors you want

  • Practice obedience skills

  • Handle your dog in everyday situations

  • Recognize when your dog needs additional support

  • Continue practicing after the program ends

The goal isn't for your dog to listen to the trainer. The goal is for your dog to understand you.

Training for Real Life

Dogs don't live in training facilities.

They live in homes, neighborhoods, parks, and communities.

That's why training should eventually extend beyond a controlled environment.

As appropriate for the individual dog, training can include opportunities to practice skills around everyday distractions and environments.

The goal is to build behaviors that are useful in real life, not simply during a training session.

Does Your Dog Struggle With Fear or Anxiety?

Some dogs require a more individualized approach because fear and anxiety can affect how they respond to training.

Side by Side Dog Training has a particular passion for helping fearful, anxious, shy, and rescue dogs, supported by more than 17 years of hands-on rescue experience.

For dogs experiencing fear or anxiety, the training approach should take the individual dog's temperament, history, triggers, and comfort level into consideration.

An evaluation is the best way to determine whether the Hybrid Package—or another training option—is appropriate for your dog.

What Our Clients Say

My rescue Juno, just completed a Board and Train with Sherry! When Juno was first introduced to Sherry he had problems with reactivity on the leash with both dogs and humans. Sherry was very patient and communicative with helping me understand my dogs behaviors and how to properly desensitize him. I learned that 'gentle' training him was only encouraging his bad behaviors. When we picked him up he was a brand new dog, I couldn't believe it! I am forever grateful to Sherry for taking the time to train my pup and giving me the version of himself that I can now finally share with the world. I cannot wait to continue his training! It was truly worth every penny!
