Whether you're welcoming a new puppy, working on everyday manners, bringing home a rescue dog, or dealing with a more challenging behavior, Side by Side Dog Training provides personalized training designed around your dog and your family's goals.

Dog Training Designed Around Your Dog

Every dog has a different personality, history, temperament, and way of learning.

That's why Side by Side Dog Training takes an individualized approach rather than trying to fit every dog into the same training program.

Sherry works with Gold Canyon families to build practical skills, clearer communication, and greater confidence—whether you're looking for better manners at home, a more enjoyable walk, improved obedience, or help with a more challenging behavior.

And while Side by Side works with dogs of all kinds, Sherry has a particular passion for fearful, anxious, shy, and under-socialized dogs.

For some dogs, everyday situations can feel overwhelming.

A dog may hide, freeze, bark, growl, avoid people or other dogs, struggle in new environments, or become overwhelmed by sights and sounds that seem ordinary to us.

Sherry has more than 17 years of hands-on rescue experience and a particular passion for helping dogs who need additional patience, understanding, and confidence-building.

The goal isn't simply to stop a behavior.

It's to understand why the behavior is happening, teach practical skills, and help the dog and their person move forward together.

Meet Your Gold Canyon Dog Trainer

Hi, I'm Sherry, owner and trainer at Side by Side Dog Training.

With more than 17 years of hands-on rescue experience, I've worked with dogs from many different backgrounds and developed a particular passion for helping dogs who need patience, understanding, and confidence-building.

I believe effective training isn't just about teaching a dog what to do.

It's about helping dogs and their people understand each other.

My goal is to give you the skills and confidence to continue building a better relationship with your dog long after training ends.

Helping Gold Canyon Dogs Navigate Everyday Life

Gold Canyon's desert surroundings provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy time outdoors with your dog.

But new environments, unfamiliar people, other dogs, wildlife, sounds, and distractions can affect every dog differently.

A confident dog may enjoy the challenge.

A fearful, anxious, or reactive dog may find the same environment overwhelming.

Training can help you recognize your dog's individual comfort level and learn how to introduce new experiences in a way that supports success rather than creating unnecessary stress.

The goal isn't to rush your dog into every environment.

It's to build the skills, communication, and confidence that allow your dog to participate more comfortably in the experiences that are right for them.

Training for Real Life in Gold Canyon

For many Gold Canyon families, life with a dog includes neighborhood walks, outdoor activities, community spaces, and time exploring the Arizona landscape.

Those experiences can provide opportunities to practice skills such as:

  • Loose-leash walking

  • Focus around distractions

  • Recall

  • Impulse control

  • Calm behavior around people and dogs

  • Confidence in new environments

But successful training isn't about taking every dog into the busiest environment possible.

For fearful, anxious, or reactive dogs, choosing the right environment and maintaining an appropriate distance from triggers can be an important part of the training process.

Training should meet your dog where they are and help them progress from there.
